Striking Solid Ro$e Gold

Listen to the podcast episode

Ro$e Gold is a hip hop artist we’ve gotten to know over the course of the past year. He’s shown up to our open mics, stayed active in our community and continues to improve his sound and make big things happen for his music career. Ro$e currently lives in a small town in Vermont, but is moving to Florida in August.

So far Ro$e has had an epic year for gigs, too! He performed in February for Futuristic who he’s listened to most of his life. The next day, Ro$e got to perform with Hopsin, another huge artist Ro$e has listened to for a long time and dreamed of collaborating with.

Later this year, Ro$e is looking to open for Ghostface Killah and Dizzy Wright. Big things are in the works for this artist! “I love doing big things, but then turn around and give back by collaborating with artists that have a smaller following,” Ro$e says.

“We just had this challenge put on by Itslovekelly SSG Coby to open for SSG Coby and North Ave Jacks who’s buzzing up here, and one of my boys, Tyler, just won. I was so happy for him even though I entered the contest too and got knocked out.” Ro$e says his end goal is always to be able to give back.

Ro$e also let us in on an exciting new development with a record label where he initially paid to play at a show, and wound up winning a full EP deal. After the initial excitement, about a month passed with no contact from the label and he started to think they had ghosted him, but then recently they called him and asked if he’d like to meet. They flew him out to Georgia and paid for his ticket, food and hotel. He explains that the first few days they basically just hung out and Ro$e got introduced to other artists. The label asked him to collaborate with them to mutually gain more exposure, while Ro$e still has full control of his music.

There’s been collaborations back and forth between Ro$e Gold and the artists he met through that label since then and he’s so grateful for the opportunities he has landed.

Q: Why did you choose the name Ro$e Gold?

My last name is Thorn, so if I ever have a daughter I want to name her Rose. And I love gold because it reminds me of peace. And rose gold is a beautiful color, too.

Q: What projects do you have going on right now?

I just dropped a single with Darrein Safron called Shake That. It’s a party song for the ladies to shake their ass to. And then I have another song dropping in two weeks with Jaybreezy called BTMD (big top money drop) and it’s just crazy. You gotta hear it to believe it.

Q: Do you find yourself becoming close friends with a lot of other musicians?

Yes, and fans. You never know when there’s gonna be another artist at a show watching your set. I’ve had over 50 people come up to me after a show and say “hey, I’m an artist too.” I’ve found hella musician friends but they won’t approach you if you act like you’re something that’s bigger.

Q: What would be your dream collab?

Hopsin and TechN9ne together would make my entire life complete.

Q: What advice would you give to artists just starting out?

Network, network, network. It’s hard, it’s a pain in the ass, but it gets you to where you need to be. Also, playlists. I’m usually too impatient but this last release I submitted my song four weeks early and submitted it to the Spotify playlists. That jumped me from around 10-20 daily listeners to 100+! Be consistent.

Q: Who are your biggest supporters?

My girl, and my mama. My girl has traveled everywhere with me, and my mom pays for our travel when she can. But all of my fans are so supportive, especially ones I’ve met in person!

We are so pumped for Ro$e Gold! He’s so talented and his hard work is really paying off for him. He is definitely an artist to watch! Make sure to go to Ro$e Gold's page and follow him wherever you hang out to stay in the loop of upcoming events, music drops and whatever other projects Ro$e Gold creates!
