Song Review: Cruise Control by K.I.D. (feat. 2 Hotty)

When writing a review, it is important to take the piece you’re recalling for what it is. This builds your reputation as an honest person, which then makes you a more reliable source for when somebody needs to know how their music may be perceived. In person, I am blunt with people because I believe that making decisive opinions on the world around you is important for survival. With that, there comes a time in which you can’t make a decision on how you feel. When you cross something in your path that has nothing wrong with it, but for some reason rubs you the wrong way. Maybe it’s the genericness that ruins this moment, or possibly the timing of it all? Either way, Cruise Control by K.I.D. and 2 Hotty is a song that belongs right in this category, as it doesn’t have a single thing wrong with it, and because of that fact, it’s general.

Here’s what I mean. Have you ever heard a song in your life that imprints a memory into you? Think of movie scores, and how one track can bring you to a jet cockpit with Tom Cruise soaring around with you, or how one theme can toss you in a temple, running from the biggest boulder you’ve ever seen with Harrison Ford. Music makes moments, and it can be a very effective and emotional tool. That being said, Cruise Control takes very little advantage of this, instead falling into mediocrity. The delivery in it is fine. The beat is fine. The mixing is good. I have NO REASONS to complain about this song, but for some reason I will wake up tomorrow and forget the moment I listened to it. It’s just unfortunately bland.

The reason I’m writing this is because I see a ton of potential in the song. K.I.D. and 2 Hotty both seem well practiced in music, and can clearly throw down in a studio (or wherever their music is made). This one isn’t it. It’s not going to get thousands of fans to scream your name. Some of the misogynistic lines are going to alienate a lot of your audience as well. That being said, this is definitely a good start. The technical end of the music is well thought out, and in fact, great. With music skills like this, the next thing they need to work on is interesting content. Making a song that grabs people’s attention with clever, well thought out writing, and makes your hooks stand out more.

Overall I’m giving Cruise Control a 5/10. Being completely honest, this song needs some creative work. That being said, with the potential of the 2 artists on the track, I can really see them doing something amazing in the future. With the right mindset and the right things written down on the page, I could see something really special coming from both K.I.D and 2 Hotty. That being said, this one isn’t going to be the one that puts either on the map. We’ll be keeping an eye out for the next one!
