Song Review #17: B-Lyriq, Vo, and Sheph NuttyB - Part 1

This week we reviewed six unique artists from all walks of life, including our youngest artist yet! As independent musicians ourselves, we know how important helpful feedback and support is, so we give each song a thorough review based on what they said their skill level was, and our opinion of the beat, cadence, lyrics, and replay value. Take a listen to these three artists and let us know what you would've rated them!

B Lyriq - Nunahhdat (none Ah That) - (6.95)

B Lyriq gave us Kehlani vibes with her own unique twist. She’s giving confidence for days and is spitting a whole bunch of facts. No printer. Much like B Lyriq, we’ll have Nunahhdat hate and all of the positive vibes and love. We love the positive message Nunahhdat tells! Bump this track if you need a confidence boost.

“Hi my names B Lyriq and yes I am important, every day my vibe is gorgeous, I wake up feeling so flawless”

What is the message you want to share with this song?

I want the listener to embrace their good energy and reject any negative energy this world tries to send your way

What inspired the song?

Me and my dad wrote the song together and it was after feeling like we need some good fun energy to make us smile

Critiques: The vocals need to sit back more in the mix, adding some more vocal layers will add more depth and cadence.

Vo - I’m Still There (6.88)

Vo had us reminiscing about the one that got away with his beautifully haunting track I’m Still There. From the beat to his vocals, he had us swaying thinking about the heartache from before.

What inspired the song?

What inspired the song was a breakup I had back in 2020. The song in itself is just dialogue like the two are having a conversation but only my side of the story is being heard. Running endlessly through out my mind I’m looking for answers. I was in a pretty bad mind state because I found myself still in love with her after being shown so many reasons to leave her alone. But I just couldn’t and even knowing that she already moved on and found someone new I know that I was still in the back of her mind so I thought there was still hope.

What message or feeling do you want listeners to get from this song?

what I want people to know or feel about I’m Still There is you have to put yourself first no matter the situation no matter the person no matter the history because they can be here today and gone tomorrow and all you have left to keep you company is sorrow.

Critiques: "Too short!" - Jess; "better mix." - Karmaa

Sheph NuttyB - Angelz (6.44)

Sheph NuttyB gave us all the nostalgic feels with this smooth vibe. From the laid back piano to his velvety voice, we were all grooving to this track. If you’re kicking it under the stars with a significant other or even by yourself, this song is perfect for setting the mood.

What inspired this track?

The inspiration for this song is quite simply my life experiences. What I've been through, what I've learned/ what wisdom I've gained through said experiences, what I felt both physically and emotionally, and my healing afterwards. If any.

What is the song about?

It's about pain. It's about betrayal. It's honestly me, documenting through song, meter and rhyme, and oftentimes the recurring periods of time.

Lyrics you want to highlight?

"Did you remember me... /Back when I was ODing on Corricidin? /Heart is speeding, passing out as I'm feeling the Powers Seething/Reaching out my hand but ain't no body down for leading..." Pretty much that whole first verse. I couldn't have been more candid.

We loved the emotional story behind Angelz, and the mix of Sheph's rapping and singing voice.

Critiques: we want to hear those vocals pop more, either with more layers or a different mix.

Overall we encourage you to check out each of these artists either on our Ascendance Family Playlist or the links attached and let us know how you would rate each of these songs. See you next time with more indie reviews!
